Tunisia - New. Old. Older.

Sousse, medina quarter

As I was walking along the crowded narrow streets of Sousse medina quarter, I suddenly heard some loud cheering which appeared to come from everywhere. It took no time at all to find out that there was this big soccer game going on and the local team had just won the African Super Cup. These two kids came out the window cheering and smiling, happy about the great event. In Tunisia, football is an important part of people's life.

Medina quarter: a distinct city section found in many North African cities. The medina is typically walled, contains many narrow and maze-like streets, and was built by Arabs as far back as the 9th century CE. The word "medina" itself simply means "city" or "town" in modern day Arabic
